Trying ippodo sayaka for the first time! It definitely lives up to my expectations. The taste was prominently umami with some natural sweetness. It is also smooth, creamy, and goes down easily, no bitterness and astringency at all. If I want to drink usucha, sayaka and ummon would be my choices. In a latte, the flavor mellowed out but still retains its umami. I would pair this one with Oatly Barista or Deluxe to let its flavor shine through. Imho, both Ippodo Sayaka and Ummon are better used in usucha as the milk kinda mellows out their flavor. Rating: 9/10.
This morning I'm using good old Sayaka. It's been one of the more accessible matcha brands that are from Japan because they have warehouses in the US. I think a 40 gram Sayaka is now like $50 something. I think that the price increases are long overdue. I don't think it's worth it for daily drinking anymore at that price point. That's just not something that's going to be sustainable for me anymore as an everyday matcha. I don't think I'll be buying from Ippodo on their websites anytime in the near future. Anything I can get that's more affordable tastes worse. So good. I still have two unopened 40 gram tins and a 100 gram bag, so I'm gonna be savoring every last drop.
